Budget the trip, not the headline fare.
There is no verified, consistent India-wide 30-year holiday-price series in this portal. The recreation index is not a substitute for international flights, hotels and school-holiday travel.
Use a repeatable trip basket: same destination, season, flight class, room standard, nights and people. Add visas, insurance, meals, transport, currency conversion and cancellation flexibility.
Separate a more expensive version of the same trip from more trips, longer stays or upgraded accommodation. Those decisions may be worthwhile; the point is to see what they cost your other goals.
Build a like-for-like comparison
Write down the same quantity, quality, location, season and payment terms for both dates. Record the source and actual quotation date. Then add your proposed upgrade as a separate scenario.

Historical inflation is not a forecast. A national index cannot predict a particular family’s school, medical, property or travel bill. The 2026 CPI base change means old and new index levels must not be directly spliced together.
