How to read this result

  1. Compare how much you could save if you spend more or less of each pay rise.
  2. Rising prices reduce what your income can buy. If prices rise faster than income, your budget may become harder to afford.
  3. Try a spending level you can maintain. Investment growth is an assumption, and unexpected costs are not included.
Calculation details and sources

The proportional path keeps spending at the same share of income. The planned path first increases today’s budget with inflation, then spends your chosen share of additional real income.

Saving a percentage of each pay rise can increase your savings rate. If income grows more slowly than prices, there may be no increase in real income to allocate; planned spending can exceed income.

Investment growth is a fixed after-tax assumption. Contributions occur at year end. This comparison excludes debt interest and uneven life events, and it is not a return promise.
