InvestingSGB 2020–21 Series I · holders eligible for the scheduled premature-redemption date

SGB 2020–21 Series I: ₹14,159 premature-redemption price for 28 October

RBI’s 27 October release sets ₹14,159 per unit for the tranche’s scheduled 28 October premature redemption. The price uses the simple average of the 999-purity gold closing prices for 23, 26 and 27 October. This is a tranche-specific rupee redemption price, not a new SGB offer, a live gold quote or proof that any individual request was accepted or paid.

For you: Eligible holders should check the receiving office or depository record for their own redemption instruction, bank details, tax position and settlement. Do not apply this price to another SGB tranche or to a market sale.

TaxSpecified Schedule IV government-security exemptions · eligible claimants only

CBDT notifies Form 173A for specified government-security exemptions

Notification 137/2026 inserts rule 281A and Form 173A for information supporting exemptions under Schedule IV entries 13D and 13E of the Income-tax Act, 2025. The final rules took effect on Gazette publication on 19 October. This is a reporting mechanism for specified eligible claimants, not a blanket government-security exemption for every NRI or individual investor.

For you: Before claiming the exemption, confirm that the claimant and security meet the exact Schedule IV entry and complete the prescribed information. Ordinary NRI investors should not file Form 173A merely because they hold a government security.

InvestingRegistered debenture trustees · activities outside SEBI’s regulatory purview

SEBI gives debenture trustees until 27 April 2027 for separate-business-unit compliance

SEBI’s final 27 October circular grants an additional six months, to 27 April 2027, for registered debenture trustees to comply with the separate-business-unit requirements for activities outside SEBI’s purview. The former 27 October 2026 deadline is superseded; the other provisions of the 25 November 2025 circular remain unchanged. This does not change a bond’s coupon, maturity or payment entitlement.

For you: Debenture investors can review the trustee’s current disclosures and escalation route, but should not treat the extension as a change to their security terms. Trustees should use the official circular for implementation details.

BankingFEMA compounding applications · specified overseas-investment, borrowing, lending and guarantee contraventions

RBI delegates more FEMA compounding applications to regional offices

RBI’s A.P. (DIR Series) Circular 28 delegates specified compounding powers for overseas investment, borrowing, lending and guarantees to named regional offices. Overseas-investment applications are routed using the UIN prefix; other covered cases follow the applicant’s registered-office or domicile jurisdiction. This changes where specified applications are handled, not the underlying FEMA obligation, a remittance allowance or an amnesty.

For you: Before filing, identify every alleged contravention and use the circular’s routing table. Mixed-category cases may still be handled by the Central Office Foreign Exchange Department; confirm the correct office with the authorised dealer or professional adviser.

Voting & documentsDelhi · SIR 2026 · eligible electors

Delhi’s SIR claims and objections remain open through 30 October

CEO Delhi’s 23 October press note explicitly says the current notices, claims and objections period runs through 30 October. The Commission’s 26 September decision separately extended disposal through 30 November. These are Delhi dates, not a national deadline; Maharashtra’s claims window ended on 12 October and its disposal period continues through 10 November.

For you: Check the latest constituency notice and your applicable voter route with the ERO. Keep submission and hearing records. OCI or other foreign citizenship does not confer Indian voting eligibility.

How these updates are selected

We prioritise upcoming actions, relevance to people living abroad, recent developments and a traceable source. This is an editorial selection, not a measured social-media popularity ranking. We use recent or ongoing items when useful same-day announcements cannot be verified. No paid placement or referral affects the order.

The edition date records an actual editorial update. A source-check date is not legal approval. Scheduled checks can fail; an earlier edition remains visibly dated.
