School fees can rise faster than the average.
The education index is an average across a broad basket. It is not a forecast for a particular private school, university, boarding school or overseas degree.
Build a cost schedule for each child: tuition, annual increases, admission charges, transport, books, devices, activities, accommodation and travel. Overseas study also introduces currency risk.
Moving from one fee tier to another is a family choice as well as a price change. Compare a constant-quality plan with the upgraded plan, and leave a buffer for one-off costs.
Build a like-for-like comparison
Write down the same quantity, quality, location, season and payment terms for both dates. Record the source and actual quotation date. Then add your proposed upgrade as a separate scenario.

Historical inflation is not a forecast. A national index cannot predict a particular family’s school, medical, property or travel bill. The 2026 CPI base change means old and new index levels must not be directly spliced together.
